48 Hours in Phoenix – A Review of Our Much Anticipated Events

It’s hard to believe that I landed in sunny Phoenix just a little over 48 hours ago. I came with a mission: to introduce this great city and its people to Battle Buddy Fitness. This trip marks the official launch of our online training program—My Virtual Battle Buddy Fitness (My VBBF). Though we are able to reach many amazing people in the small town of Saint Robert, Missouri, we decided that in order to spread our message further, we needed to take our business online. Melissa and I are both extremely excited about the opportunity to meet and engage with even more people who want to get healthy and start living the best versions of themselves.

Our first activity started at 6:30 am on Tuesday morning. We had a very fun and enthusiastic group of Phoenix teachers meet us for a morning bootcamp before they started their day. It was a typical Arizona morning. The beautiful blue sky and bright sun smiled down upon us as we put the ladies through a series of bodyweight circuits and agility ladder drills. Needless to say, everyone was nice and sweaty by the end of the hour. In addition to getting a great workout, there were a lot of smiles and giggles as they bear crawled and frog jumped across the field. We met a couple of new friends, and got a good sweat with some old friends. We are particularly thankful to Principal Leslie Beauchamp for letting us put together the event, and we’re already looking forward to next time.

Tuesday evening was our much-anticipated JAM event with our good friend, Rebecca Brookson, from Bicyclette. Rebecca is on a mission to inspire women of all ages and fitness levels to get outside and get on a bike. Since part of our mission to get people to find an activity that they love and do it as much as possible, we thought it would be a great idea to pair up and put on an even for the cycling enthusiasts of Scottsdale. We had an amazing turnout—a packed room, in fact—and the energy of our attendees was awesome. Their enthusiasm and participation made the hour zoom by, and my cheeks hurt from laughing so much by the time we were finished.

Our clinic consisted of several great stretches for bicycle riders (and non-bicycle riders) of all levels, as well as some great strengthening exercises and some tips on pre and post-ride nutrition. It always amazes me how entertaining an hour with a group of women who have similar interests can be. We had a ton of good laughs, and hopefully the ladies came away with a couple of good tidbits of information.

By far, my favorite part of the JAM event was getting to meet and hang out with some other female small-business owners. We met Amber of Bicycle Vibe and Noemi and Clover who have a line of vegan baked goods. It was so exciting to interact with a group of women who are out there in the world living their passion and making their dream reality.

After the excitement of our bicycle clinic, we had another bootcamp early this morning with a group of Phoenix parents. Again, we have Leslie to thank for setting us up with this amazing group of women. Attendance was phenomenal—I told Melissa that I hadn’t taught a fitness class to a group that big in over a year. Melissa was able to use her bilingual abilities and she translated the workout into Spanish, as the majority of the women in attendance were Spanish speakers. This was hour that truly made every ounce of hard work that we have poured into this business completely worth it. The gratitude that these women showed us for taking the time to give them a good workout was like medicine to our souls. We left that school gymnasium beaming from ear to ear and feeling like we truly are on a path to do something special.

What has really struck me in these last 48 hours is how many things we all share in common—no matter the state, no matter the language, no matter the profession. We are all just trying our best. We may not always know exactly what to do, or for how long or how hard, but we’re all just trying our best to be happy and healthy.

I’m really feeling so grateful for the opportunity to be here and I look forward to many more trips in the near future. Watch out, world! Battle Buddy Fitness is on its way to YOU!
